Privacy Policy for ChatMod
Effective date: 16 November 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how ChatMod ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our Chrome extension.
By installing or using ChatMod, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Scope
This policy applies only to the ChatMod Chrome extension and covers how we handle data within the extension itself. It does not cover any third-party websites, services, or applications you interact with (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, or other sites).
2. Data We Collect
2.1 No Personal or Chat Content Data
We do not collect or store any of the following:
- Your chat content, prompts, or responses
- Your account credentials for any AI or other services
- Names, email addresses, or other personally identifiable information (PII)
- IP addresses or device identifiers intentionally used to identify you as an individual
All chat content and page content processed by the extension is handled locally in your browser and is not sent to our servers.
2.2 Non-Personal Usage Metrics
To understand how ChatMod is used and to improve stability and features, we collect non-personal usage metrics. This may include:
- Which extension features are used (e.g. chat outline, resource index, etc.)
- Basic technical information such as extension version and browser type
- Anonymous event data (e.g. feature opened, error occurred)
- Timestamps related to feature usage (e.g. when a feature is activated)
These usage metrics are not linked to your identity and do not include chat content or PII.
3. How We Use the Data
We use the non-personal usage metrics described above solely to:
- Monitor extension performance and reliability
- Detect and debug errors or crashes
- Understand which features are helpful and where to improve
- Plan and prioritize new features and enhancements
We do not use the data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent any data to third parties.
We may share non-personal, aggregated usage statistics with:
- Service providers that help us process usage metrics and maintain the extension (e.g. analytics or error-reporting tools)
- Legal authorities, if required to do so by law or to protect our rights and the safety of users
Any service providers we use are contractually restricted to using the data only on our behalf and only for the purposes described in this policy.
5. Data Storage & Security
- Non-personal usage metrics may be stored on secure servers managed by us or our service providers.
- We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect this data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
- Because we do not collect chat content or PII, the risk related to personal privacy is deliberately minimized.
6. Your Choices & Controls
You can disable or uninstall the extension at any time from your browser's extension settings. After uninstalling, ChatMod will no longer collect usage metrics.
If you wish to request deletion of any usage data associated with you that might reasonably be considered personal (even though we do not intentionally store PII), you can contact us at ryan@maugin.one, and we will make reasonable efforts to delete it.
7. Children's Privacy
ChatMod is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at ryan@maugin.one so we can remove it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, regulatory, or operational reasons. When we do, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page.
If the changes are material, we may also provide additional notice (for example, via an updated listing on the Chrome Web Store).
